Kazakh Polytechnic Institute (KazPTI), the strongest engineering school in KazakhSSR where outstanding students from all over the country who passed state exams with the highest science scores would come together. It was an alma mater for scientists and intellectuals who took the development of KazakhSSR into their hands, significantly reducing the influence of the party governors from Moscow.
